Alyssa has loved performing for as long as she can remember. Some of her earliest memories are of dancing and singing to The Lion King soundtrack in the living room with her sisters or turning on the karaoke machine and putting on a show of Celine Dion’s greatest hits. One of Alyssa’s first public solos was in the role of “Preposition” in a cute third-grade musical about a grammar detective (fitting, since Alyssa later became a professional editor!). Alyssa continued to participate in plays and choirs throughout elementary school and middle school, in addition to the formal voice lessons she started at age 9.
After studying classical voice for several years as a teenager, Alyssa settled into her love of contemporary styles. In high school she competed in jazz choir and musical theatre events. She worked one-on-one with producer Tyler Castleton and LDS artist Jenny Phillips, becoming familiar with the recording studio and the LDS pop genre. In later years she would record solos and even write music for Jenny Phillips albums sold at Deseret Book.
Alyssa graduated from Brigham Young University with a bachelor’s degree in theatre. While attending BYU, she performed across the country with the award-winning a cappella group Noteworthy, directed by Keith Evans. She was a featured soloist in their viral “Amazing Grace” music video, which has over 80 million views, and was privileged to share center stage with the incomparable Gladys Knight at BYU Homecoming Spectacular. Later Alyssa and other Noteworthy alumni went on to form a new pop group called Lucca. This group performed for thousands in Japan and produced several of their own music videos.
Alyssa spent a summer as a Nauvoo Performing Missionary (where she met her husband, Garrett) and has been a core cast member of the Nauvoo and British Pageants. She also sang with the Latter-Day Celebration Choir, directed by Ryan Eggett, where she served as the choir’s secretary and women’s vocal coach. Other notable experiences include dueting with country artist Collin Raye and with renowned tenor Nathan Pacheco.
In addition to her singing credits, Alyssa has extensive acting training and stage and film experience. Some of her favorite roles have been Chris in Dancing at Lughnasa, Gertrude Chiltern in An Ideal Husband, and Beck in a short horror film called “The Boil.” She also writes plays and does voice over and narration. If it has to do with storytelling, Alyssa wants to be a part of it! With any time left over, she loves to bake, read, and travel. She and Garrett have two children, who also love to sing.
